Shortly before his death in 2004 my father gave me a dusty old box full of postcards. I didn't pay too much attention to them at the time and they languished on a closet shelf for a few more years.
Before email, Twitter and Facebook. Before even telephones were common, the penny postcard was used to announce both births and deaths along with dinner plans for the following week. My grandmother and her immediate family sent these things by the dozen, often within the same neighborhood.
Aside from the artwork and family connection (someday I'll figure out who they are) some of the messages are interesting in themselves,
"do try and come over Mon. if you can for we must go down to see Willie. he shot himself in the hand with Papa's revolver the 4th. "
Free ecards can be sent to your friends and reproductions of many cards can be purchased via Zazzle. If you would like to use any of these images in your own projects please take a moment and review the FAQ before asking sales related questions.
